Worship in Spirit & Truth"
.John 4: 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and
truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit
and in truth."
How do we worship our God in Spirit & Truth? What do we do to bring the Spirit of God into our presence?
What must we do or be to enter into His worship to praise Him? I hear these questions all the time! Yet how is it
that God's people can’t enter into His throne with praise and worship Him? Well, there are a number of things and
many reasons why! Where to start?
I had a hard time praising & worshipping when I was younger for this reason! I didn't know Jesus!!! How is it we
think we can worship God with out knowing Jesus? Jesus is our way to God and His Throne! The only way! We
have to have an understanding of our connection to heaven to even stand before God's throne of mercy and grace.
That understanding comes from none other than Jesus himself.
As we receive Jesus, His very Spirit comes to us to generate our earthly bodies to make us as reborn in that Spirit.
That Spirit (the Holy Spirit) now dwells in us so we can praise & worship the one who sent it (Christ Jesus) in spirit
& truth. God is Spirit. The Holy Spirit who came from Jesus to live in us is our only connection to the throne of
God & He lives in us!.
Romans 8:10 “But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of
righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from
the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. “
12Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13For if you
live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you
will live, 14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you did not receive a spirit that
makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16The
Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs
of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
What keeps us from worshiping & praising God? SIN is one thing that keeps us from it. How can we praise &
worship God then? Confess your sins! Get in your prayer closet & pray, then move into worship!*
Here is another reason the Spirit won't come to you. If you come to praise as a carnal minded person, the Spirit
will only convict you to repentance. If you go to church dressed like the world, *(skimpy clothes-low-cut tops-tight
pants-short skirts-looking like the world-looking for a lover-look at me I'm sexy-gold on every finger-etc....) the
spirit will not see you as a worshipper or a praiser. He will see a carnal soul in the spirit of this world. God told us
to be HOLY not worldly! Putting on the mind of Christ puts us in the same spirit as Christ's to worship our God in
spirit & truth.
How important is it to worship God in Spirit & Truth? It is very important! In the levitical priesthood, the priests
and the ark bearers had to dress in specific garments and they had to do all of their worship & praise exactly as
God commanded them and to do it in reverence to God. If it was not done exactly as God commanded, there was
consequences to pay. The chief priest had to be Holy as God commanded. At first Aaron and his sons did
everything according to God's instructions, and God honored them (8:36; 9:24). But in very short order some of the
first official priests got careless about following God's explicit orders. The severe punishment sent out a strong
message to other priests: they were there to carry out God's plan, not their own. Leviticus10:1”Aaron's sons Nadab
and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered strange fire before the LORD,
contrary to his command. 2So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died
before the LORD. 3Moses then said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke of when he said:
" `Among those who approach me
I will show myself holy;
in the sight of all the people
I will be honored.' "
Do we hold God in reverence? We'd better! The Holy Spirit will not move on irreverence toward God. The Spirit
is our seal unto God. It is the spirit God sees in us as we worship Him. God recognizes the Spirit in our souls to
say we belong to him. Coming before God to worship with a worldly appearance is as putting strange fire on the
altar. Here is something I always say "Worship is your expression of Christ in you" How much of the spirit of God
is in you?
Worshiping God in spirit & truth is given us from the spirit himself! This anointing of the truth is where the spirit
himself teaches us all things. 1John 2: 27”As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you
do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not
counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.” That means be Holy for He is Holy. Leviticus 11:45”I am the
LORD who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.” Again in Rev.22:
10Then he told me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near. 11Let him
who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do
right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy." Again, 1Peter 1:13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be
self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient
children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is
holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
So where is your worship? It is in the anointing we received when we received Christ! Let us worship in spirit &
truth, that is in putting on Christ Jesus! It is you who brings the sacrifice of praise to the altar in worship.
Now for Praise & Worship Leaders, it is our commission to lead the people in worship. It is an anointing, a calling,
a privilege, a duty to Christ in deepest love & reverence to Him. If your praise team is in one accord, the Holy
Spirit will move on your behalf. *(this is called moving the right hand of God) Each member must be called worthy
to be in the position called by the spirit. I have seen churches hire studio musicians and some not saved to play
praise & worship music for their services. Some even have mixed band members just out of desperation to have a
band at all! THIS IS STRANGE FIRE UNTO THE LORD. Maybe this is why churches have a hard time
moving in the spirit. You might as well not have any praise at all! The Spirit will not move with un-commanded or
worldly people. Look at this passage and then think on it for awhile 1 Chron. 15:25”So David and the elders of
Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the
house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing. 26Because God had helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the
covenant of the LORD, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed. 27Now David was clothed in a robe of fine
linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the singers, and Kenaniah, who was in charge
of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod. 28So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams' horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and
harps.” All the priests, praisers, and carriers of the ark (that's us) had on the garments of the priests. *The garment
we are to have on to worship God now is Jesus! He is our priestly garment to have on as we worship, praise, and
lead others. All in the same garment-one accord-no strange fire.
Now, how do we lead worship? In spirit & truth AND as unto the LORD! We are to put on The Garment-The
Holy Spirit of Christ unto God. Now, it's not enough to say "lets just make a joyful noise unto God" we are not all
that good and it won't matter how we sound! WRONG! A joyful noise is pleasant sounding. Who wants to hear
singing out of tune or sour notes? The Holy Spirit will fill you with the spirit of craft to do your ministry, that's why
you would be called! 1 Chron. 28: 20”David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do the
work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake
you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished. 21The divisions of the priests and
Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing man skilled in any craft will help you in all
the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command." Exodus 31:6”Moreover, I have
appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to
make everything I have commanded you:”
Exodus 35:31”and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts--
32to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 33to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to
engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship. God gives the same skill to worship Him! We have to praise him with
skill in music and playing music to Him.
Psalm 33:1”Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
2Praise the LORD with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
3Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
4For the word of the LORD is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does. “ How does you church band sound? If there is one person in your praise team who is
called to worship God they should be the ones to lead you into worshiping God. This is very important to be in
order with the way heaven praises in one accord. Play skillfully unto the Lord. If you have members who are there
to “show off” or " to be seen" or are not dressed in an appropriate manner, then clean house! Set true worshipers in
their place, then you will see the Spirit of God move in and around you. The ministering angels will only move when
the Spirit moves. If the praisers are not in one accord, then the service won’t be either.
If we will praise God in spirit and truth, He will meet us in the place we meet. It is up to each person (each person)
to contact the Lord in praise. Just as we are each responsible for our own salvation, so are we in true praise and
worship? Have you ever seen people standing in church and some are in the spirit and some are not? Some are not
worshipping in the spirit and in one accord. We have to bring the Spirit in as each person to him or herself. Enter in
and take part of the move of God’s Spirit and leave your religious spirit at home. On the other hand, if the band has
strange fire or is not in one accord “it ain't gonna happen anyway!”* Col. 2:23 says that there are those who
worship falsely and they worship with their self-imposed worship. That means lip service, without the Spirit of the
Lord, false worship. He won’t hear you! You can fake it until you’re blue in the face! Only Praise & Worship to
Him in Spirit & Truth will please God and Our Lord Jesus. Then He will come and move. Then as we are in His
Presence Healings, Deliverances, Salvations, Wonders, will take place. And this comes from those who worship
The Lord in Spirit & Truth. All of this takes discipline and obedience to count yourself able to meet with your God
and your Lord! It takes your time and fasting ( in some cases ) and payer.
Here is a hint!, if the Church is not praising God in spirit & truth, God will not hear you for one thing, and your
efforts will be for nothing. He is NOT interested in your pitiful attempt to impress Him. If you want to impress The
Lord, show Him reverence, be Holy for He is. If your going to stand before The Lord God, why would you not
dress in a way He would except! As I said before, short skirts, low-cut tops, tight pants, etc…. The Lord won’t be
there! He Is Holy!! Remember, all of the priests and praiser's had on priestly garments. He (The Lord) demanded it
of them. And to worship Him as His own Holy race.
If you have people like this in your meeting place, You! Should address it. You! Pastor, You Apostle, You Prophet,
need to address it. Make the people understand what worship is for and who it is for! Here are some areas you
should be looking at. The Praise Band, are all your band members in one accord? Do they all know how to praise?
The Sound People, do they enter in praise? Or do they just show up and *do their own thing. They have to be
included with the whole worship and praise ministry. Is your whole praise team worship in truth or do they follow
someone else’s lead from some TV show so they can Look holy or Look spiritual by waving their hands JUST
RIGHT or try to out sing each other or out play each other!? God will not come to your Church with all the false
worship or as Clo.2:23 says self-Imposed worship.
God sees true worshippers, The Lord Jesus hears and moves in true praisers. Be ready for things to happen, when
you come to praise and worship when you all have prayed and been before God before you even come to the place
of meeting. Ready in season and out. When you can stand before the people and bring the Holy Spirit with you.
Know what is in you and how to move the right hand of God.
