Greg Gibson-Bailey Starting out in life borne in Panama on the mission field in Central America. Greg’s
Father & Mother, Carl & Helen Gibson had been in Panama for eight years. Coming home was not a very
sweet homecoming. Greg’s Father & Mother would divorce soon after. Leaving Helen Lorraine Gibson to
raise three children on her own Carl was gone. He had left Lori for her best friend who lived across the
street from them when they lived in California. Growing up with out a Father proved to be a hard time for
the family. Being passed around from Grandmother to Aunt & back to Mother was an experience to have to
grow up with. Greg’s Grandmother & Aunt where both Christians & they made sure he knew whom Christ
Jesus is. Moving to Burbank California, Greg’s hardship with an on going & haunting memory of a time
he wanted to forget forever, Greg had been befriended by a man who had other things on his mind than just
a friendship. This man took Greg to his apartment, where he raped & molested him. Memories of such
things are very hard for a 10-year-old boy to live with. Harder to live with than that, Greg’s Father never
came to see him nor did he ever call him to see if he was all right. (Jesus was there) Living in Los Angeles
in the 60’s, Greg’s only influences were the boys he played with in school & in the streets. Gangs were a
very in thing back then & Greg made sure he fit right in with his buddies. The family lived on Sunset Blvd
In the heart of L.A. Being a member of the SSE’s (Sarrano Street Equalizers) Greg & his pals broke into a
store across the street from his apartment building. Taking anything they could find & carry out, they ran
off not knowing Greg’s dog was stuck in the building. Two days later the owner of the store came to Greg’s
yard & asked if that was his dog in the yard? Greg said yes. A few hours later the police came to arrest Greg
& his pals. Greg was 12 years old. Lori, Greg’s Mother, was devastated that her son had done such a thing.
She called her sister up north for comfort. Greg’s Aunt told his Mother about a place in Fresno California
that would take Greg in & counsel him. The court date came & Lori asked the judge if she could send Greg
there instead of jail, & he said he would allow Greg to go. Things where about to change for Greg just in
time, & in God’s timing. The home for boys was none other than Out Reach For Youth. (A home for young
men in trouble). This is where Greg met Nicky Cruz the founder of the home. He also met a counselor there
by the name of Doug Lineer. Doug was the man who took all the young men in the home to church tree
times a week. Pastor Cheatwood of Faith Chapel preached a powerful message one night. & Greg went to
the altar that night to meet Jesus. Doug stayed with Greg as he knelt for about two and a half hours. Jesus
did a great work in his life that night & still is now. Life was one struggle after another. Now living in
Nashville, Tenn. Greg saw the opportunity to play football. The only problem was, he had been having
blackouts and dizziness. Having to take a physical to be on the team, he went to the doctor for an exam.
While on the table he had a dizzy feeling & said so to the doctor. Greg had been told he had Epilepsy. At
the age of 14 it was hard to handle. Lori & Greg where in Nashville alone & Lori worked two jobs to keep
the bills paid. At this time Jesus was calling Lori to be saved & listening to that call she took them both
back to California. Lori’s sister & brother put them up in a coffeehouse & there Lori started to grow in the
Lord (MIGHTILY) Greg had gotten some money in Nashville from his Father & bought a twelve string
guitar for his birthday. That’s where it all got started musically for Greg. The Lord was so real to him in
music, so Greg taught himself how to play. Greg’s sister had been living with Lori’s sister, & was singing
in a choir called Freedom Revelation. She talked him into joining & singing for the Lord. The choir toured
all over California one summer to all of the correctional facilities. Greg had found his calling in music.
The epilepsy was still a problem. Greg was still having blackouts. One day Lori came to him & asked him if
he would like to go to a revival with her. Yes! Was the answer. That night Evangelist Vic Coburn preached.
At the end of the service he called all who needed a healing to come forward. A long line went all the way
around the auditorium. As Greg approached Coburn he looked right into his eyes & said with a loud voice
COME OUT YOU SPIRIT OF EPILEPSEY! & it did. Greg never had another blackout ever! Dose God
heal today? YES! Does God deliver? YES! Yes He does! When Greg turned 17 he started to write songs
more & more. His love for Jesus & music drove him to the bible, where he would be inspired to write about
truth & healing. Married at age 22, Greg started out in trouble. When he was 20 he & a friend had done
bad things. Bad enough to put him in jail for a year. Getting in trouble before he was married his jail
sentence fell right after. Greg’s first of 4 sons was born while he was locked up. But, Greg had turned back
to the Lord right before marriage & Jesus was helping him cope with all of the hard times. After getting out
things had been going easy. Moving to Kansas now with 3 sons & one on the way, Greg fell to that old way
of life & cheated on his wife. Trying to get the love & respect back from his wife 10 years later she divorced
him. After 16 years of marriage his wife’s parents talked her into calling it quits. Moving to Oklahoma,
Greg put his heart & life in God’s hands. For the next 6 months he buried himself in the word & went
nowhere. Praying that his family would be together again & live happy, the next three years would be very
hard to live. And they were. Having to start over, Greg met a woman at church who was very unlikely to
become his soul mate & Seven years later they are very happy. And one by one his sons have moved to
Oklahoma to be near them. Life is as hard as you make it to be. But, Jesus can straighten it out for you. Put
your eyes on Jesus, and DON’T waver from side to side.
